Founders of the AcuShack: Jason Moss, MS, L.Ac. & Andrea Moss, MS, L.Ac.
Jason and Andrea Moss bring a unique blend of personal experience, professional training, and a shared passion for holistic health to their acupuncture clinic, the AcuShack. Their combined expertise and deep commitment to healing created a welcoming space where patients receive gentle, personalized care.
The AcuShack was founded with a simple but powerful goal: to make a meaningful difference in people's lives through compassionate, personalized care. Both Andrea and Jason experienced transformative healing through acupuncture, inspiring them to pursue careers as licensed acupuncturists certified in traditional Japanese-style acupuncture. Motivated by their own journeys, they created The AcuShack to provide hope, healing, and individualized care to others. Their guiding philosophy is reflected in their mission statement: "You've made everyone else a priority. Now you're ours."
Today, the AcuShack serves patients across Miller Place, Mount Sinai, Rocky Point, Port Jefferson, Sound Beach, and the surrounding North Shore communities. We see infants and grandparents, athletes and expectant mothers, and just about everyone in between. We treat the whole person rather than chasing one symptom at a time, and we do it with the gentlest tools the tradition has to offer.
Most acupuncture practiced in the U.S. follows the traditional Chinese model: larger needles, inserted more deeply. Japanese-style acupuncture works differently. The needles are finer, the technique is more subtle, and many of our treatments don't use needles at all. For children and needle-shy patients, we use specialized tools that stimulate the same therapeutic points without any insertion.
If you've always wanted to try acupuncture but couldn't get past the idea of needles, this is the practice for you.
We also offer traditional-style acupuncture for patients who prefer it, or whose condition responds best to it. Both approaches draw from thousands of years of refined clinical practice. At your first visit, we'll talk through what's right for your body and your goals.
Learn more about our approach
Most of the kids we see have never had acupuncture before, and most won't need needles to benefit from it. Our pediatric techniques use small, gentle tools to stimulate the same therapeutic points. Treatment is comfortable, effective, and most kids actually enjoy it once they realize what it's like.
Our adult patients usually come in with some mix of chronic pain, stress, poor sleep, digestive trouble, or hormonal changes. Acupuncture works well for these kinds of overlapping concerns because it treats the whole person at once, rather than handling each symptom separately.
Acupuncture is one of the safest and most-studied complementary therapies for pregnancy care. Andrea specializes in this work and treats women through every stage, from trying to conceive through postpartum recovery.
Most patients are surprised by how comfortable it is, especially with our Japanese-style approach. The needles we use are about the width of a human hair, and many treatments don't require needles at all. If you're needle-shy, just tell us. We have options designed specifically for you.
Yes. Pediatric acupuncture is one of the safest complementary therapies available, and our techniques for children typically use no needles at all. We've treated patients as young as 6 weeks.
We accept most major health insurance plans, including Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthCare, Cigna, Aetna, and The Empire Plan. We do not currently accept Medicare. We'll verify your benefits before your first visit so you know what's covered.
It depends on what we're treating. Acute issues often respond in 3 to 6 visits. Chronic conditions usually benefit from a longer course of care. We'll talk through a realistic plan at your first visit. No pressure, and no packages you have to commit to upfront.
